1. asset management - applications and methods for real time location services active rfid (and to a more limited degree passive rfid) is being leveraged in the health care industry, retail, etc. to manage to high value, mobile assets. as the costs associated with these systems fall, what are the potential applications for network management to leverage this technology? 2. on a change control system that might not be a good description, but what i'm talking about is being able to implement a change control system that applies rigorous restrictions on any changes being made without the change having been approved. as you may or may not know, most issues occur because someone changed something, and they often times do this outside of the change control system. so how do we manage changes made to the infrastructure concretely? probably the nexus of change and configuration management, and ALL access to ALL infrastructure probably needs to flow through a central (or several points) of control. but those points of control need to understand what is being accessed, by whom, at what level, what they are doing, and if what they are doing has been approved (or is simply generally allowed).

What would give me more opportunities; an MSc at Warwick Business School, or Kings College London

What would give me more opportunities; an MSc at Warwick Business School, or Kings College London?
I have offers from Warwick business school to study 'MSc Business analytics', and an offer from Kings college, London to study an 'MSc international management'. Warwick is a strong University and the business school has a very good name. I think it might be better. However Kings ranks in the top 10 for UK Unis, is well known, and the course ranks higher for graduate employment prospects (probably due to London location). Cheers. First degree was in BA Geography, and I have notable international experience and interest. I want to work in some kind of research and analytical role ideally.

CFA for investment and financial related carreer. Never heard of ACCA. Anyway CFA offers more depth and opens more opportunity (analyst, consulting etc..). Even just by passing the level 1 exam you'll be quite marketable.

Which University is good for Msc/MA International Business Management, but doesn't cost a 40k+ in tuition

Which University is good for Msc/MA International Business Management, but doesn't cost a 40k+ in tuition?
Hi there, As mentioned in the title I'd like to study a MA/Msc in International Business (and) Management. It's gonna be either in the UK or in the US. For the UK I've picked my Uni's I'll apply to, but for the US I've got mildly said no clue. I know the Top 20 Uni's in the Field of Business, but they are too expensive. I can't get funding for more than 40k USD tuition in total (40k max. for total time, no matter if it's 12, 18 or 24 months). For comparison, UK typical tuition is around 15k USD - if there's something close to that it would be amazing :) Therefore I'd like to ask for recommendations here :) If you know, I would love a few comments around typical characteristics - Quality of faculty staff, Prof's that promote new ways of thinking, Social life... Just to avoid confusion, the 40k limit concerns only the tuition itself. For living costs I have separate funding that covers about 15k per year, which should be enough.

SUNY Binghamton has a really good business program (ranked in businessweek or something), but you will not find tuition plus room and board lower than 20,000 anywhere since you are out of state. Your best bet would be to look at other state schools in the US such as indiana, penn state, maryland etc because private schools are too expensive.

You may neeed to transfer to a 4 year scnool for further engineering studies, but Crowder is fully accredited and has possibly one of the lowest tuition rates in the country. Good Luck

I am considering doing the same thing. From my understanding, the MS is more specialized whereas the MBA is more broad.

2
as such if u look at the study part there is no major difference just the title differ .actually some colleges offer MA and some MSC . MA is the masters one that is u will get the degree similar to one we get in MA -- english , economics etc etc but in Msc U WILL get degree just for mba . moreover some reputed colleges give diploma thats eqivalent to degree thats PDGHRM -- post graduate diploma in hrm SO DONT WORRY THEY R ALL the same just for the heck of it they have changed the name of the courses!

3
go for ms or master of hrm. dont go for mba (hrm) because you wont become a specialist in hr.mba will waste your time ,teaching you several fields in management and doesnt make you a specialist.

The MBA degree is considered the gold standard. There are many MBA graduates working in HR Management. . . but I don't think an MS in HR Management graduate is trained to also work in Marketing or even the Finance department.

2
It depends on your career goals. The MBA is a general degree that trains students to become managers at any level in business up to CEO. The MS is a specialized degree that concentrates on a single field and trains students for high level staff or research positions. Most MBA programs prefer students with 2-3 years work experience after the first degree, but many accept students right out of college if they have good grades and a high GMAT score. Some MBA programs are designed specifically for new college graduates without work experience. MBAs with good grades and an engineering background are in high demand and they command good starting salaries. To find the MBA program that best fits your background, criteria and preferences, a good source of information is the Official MBA Guide, a free public service at http://officialmbaguide.org. You can use it to select programs in specific geographic regions, specific concentrations, or specific types of programs, such as full-time, part-time, executive, distance learning, and accelerated. You can specify criteria that are important to you and get a ranked list of programs that best fit those criteria. From the Guide you can go directly to a school's URL or contact schools by email.

Its the same thing. The scope over the long term is good. But hotels pay notoriously low salaries to fresh grads. The big bucks come much much later

2
Dont know abt MSC but MBA has agood future coz its MARRIED BUT AVAILABLE. just joking!

3
The degrees are the same thing with a different name. Business with hospitality - or - hospitality with business. An MBA Hospitality is just another business degree needing the employer training program to learn how to do the job the way that company wants it done. Your competition has a Certificate. They are the graduates from one of the hand-full of the world's top schools. (BTW one of the top programs - world wide - is the Hospitality program offered at the Lake WashingtonTechnical College.) The MSci Hotel gives you two career pathways, Director of Sales and Hotel General Manager. Remember, it is called the Hospitality Industry and its emphasis is on hospitality. It creates the atmosphere that brings people in and it maintains the business. Smile, say hello to everyone, be happy, make the guests happy, they pay your wages.

To me, this is a somewhat specific degree, but very similar to the generalist management degree, which is the MBA (masters of business administration). A specialized degree, such as a masters of computer science with a focus in networking security, is basically education and training to do just that, manage the people that build network security devices or programs. An MBA is for a leader/manager of a business, but you don't need specific skills to one area of business, instead you have a class on finance, accounting, marketing, IS, IT, etc etc etc. In the end, you will know enough about each area to lead those areas, but you will not be specialized so that you end up being the greatest or most knowledgeable in that specific area. The MSc focuses more of the courses in to the operations side, thus any job that requires operations management, such as plan manager or superintendent, for production facilities, programing directors or project managers, and other leaders/managers who direct the operations side of a business, will work great in the position. If you know operations is where you want to be, then get this degree, if you think in 5 or 10 years you might want to move to another department within your company or even change careers altogether, I would recommend you get an MBA, because that degree basically works in any and all businesses as long as they have managers and workers, because MBA's generally start close to mid-management level and usually end up somewhere within the executive level of the company by the end of their career. Good luck in your search, either way, an MSc degree in any discipline is a great accomplishment and something to be very proud of!

Don't ask what's hot. Ask which one is a better match to *your* skills. It would be a shame to go into environmental engineering because it's "hot" and do a poor job at it, when your skills would be better suited to asset managment. Do some research, find out what people in both fields are doing after 5 years of experience, and then ask yourself: "Which one sounds like a Really Fun way to spend my day?" Some people enjoy the thought of being responsible for keeping track of millions of dollars of resources. Some people are interested in getting as much oil out from under the mountain as possible without the owls that live there noticing that anything is happening. And you're the only one who knows which you are.

Unfortunately you are right to be worried. With the current recession thousands of well qualified people are losing their jobs at the moment in the UK. Perhaps your qualifications are well suited to a particular demand where candidates are in short supply. I hope so. Good luck

2
In order to obtain a work visa, you will have to return to the USA and apply from there. Visas are almost impossible to get at the moment as companies have to offer jobs to UK then EU citizens first. If you can find a company based in the US with a UK base you can get them to sponsor a visa for you stating that you are the only person who can do that job. You cannot work for more than 20 hours a week on a student visa.

The MBA is a general business degree training students for top level management positions up to CEO or for those with entrepreneurial objectives of starting their own business. MBA students study accounting, finance, marketing, management, statistics, economics, strategy, policy, and other courses. Many MBA programs offer concentrations in these and many other fields, but that amounts to only 2-3 courses in your chosen field in the second year of study. Many students avoid a concentration and take a variety of elective subjects to gain a broader background. Most MBA programs prefer students with 2-3 years work experience after the first degree. The Master of Science is a specialized degree in a particular field such as finance, chemistry, accounting, engineering, etc. training students for top level staff and research positions who prefer not to get into general management. The MS typically requires an undergraduate education in the field in which you want the MS, or a closely related field. A finance major does not get an MS in chemistry, and a biology major does not get an MS in accounting. If you want to specialize in a particular field other than general business administration, such as finance, marketing, operations management, human resource management, or a non-business field such as public health, or public administration, you should get an MS degree in that specialization. MS programs typically do not require work experience. No one can tell you which field is better for employment because that depends on too many factors such as your grades, the school from which you graduate, the economy, demand for your sills, your work experience, and more. Consult the Official MBA Guide. It's a comprehensive free public service with more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. It allows you to search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, executive, and accelerated), and by listing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs. Should I take an MBA or 'MSc in Management of Technology'

Should I take an MBA or 'MSc in Management of Technology'?
I already have a bachelors degree in engineering. I want to become a CEO of a top telecommunications someday. Is it a must I go for an MBA? I see that most top profile financial management officers who go onto become CEOs have a MBA.

The MBA degree was originally created because people were promoted to managerial positions, and often they did not know how to manage, although they were good engineers, or scientists, or factory workers. Companies needed managers who could understand what the workers were saying, and managers without the factory floor experience often did not understand the people they supervised. Business schools responded by creating the MBA degree. It is a general degree designed to train student to enter any area of management up to CEO. MBA programs accept students with any undergraduate degree. The MBA is in contrast to the MS degree which trains students to reach higher levels of knowledge in their specialty so that they can serve as better staff and researchers, with no intention of becoming high level managers. Most MBA programs prefer students with 2-3 years work experience after the first degree, but many accept students right out of college if they have good grades and a high GMAT score. Some MBA programs are designed specifically for new college graduates without work experience. The Official MBA Guide provides a lot of information about the MBA degree and MBA schools and programs. Schools report their accreditation status, tuition cost, number of students, class sizes, program length, and a lot of other data. Schools provide data on entrance requirements, program costs, program characteristics, joint degrees, and much more. You can use the Guide to contact schools of your choice, examine their data, visit their web site, and send them pre applications. You can see lists of top 40 schools ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria. It's the best service available at http://officialmbaguide.org.

I'm sure you'll find Surrey ranks higher. And I would recommend it - my experience is actually with a MSc program in the Computing school, but I am sure you will do better by going to Surrey than Middlesex. In comparison to what I have heard about Middlesex, Surrey will be a lot better :-) Good luck

WBS Msc Management program in 2010

WBS Msc Management program in 2010?
Hey, I am confused in finding what is right choice Warwick Business School I have got admission in Warwick Business School in MSc Management course I have few points 1-I have checked times ranking and that ranks warwick not only one of best of UK but,it has really strong position in world wide universities and specially its business school is great. My concern is that many people in Pakistan are against UK education or if not against they do not encourage UK studies But here I have got admission in one of the best and I have(in my view)chance to study there. So should I go for it?or leave it and try my luck in Malaysia or Sweden My background of education is that I have done BE Telecom Engineering 2-The area where the WBS is situated is considered to be very lonely. Its not that populated like London,Manchester or Birmingum.......So what you brothers think about job opportunities 3-What if I would continue my career in Pakistan or gulf areas after my masters? Overall point is that WBS is very expensive.......and is it worth spending so much money? And have I comprehended the ranking properly or am I over-rating it Your assistance will highly be appreciated Peace and Regards for U and ur Family <HUKS>

Hi You are mistaken with your point 2. Coventry is a large and lively city and Warwick Uni is in Coventry. Birmingham in a short hop by local train and London is only just over one hour away by train. The Arts Centre at Warwick is the largest outside London with many events - and they have a prayer room.

Columbia LSMA vs LSE MSc Management

Columbia LSMA vs LSE MSc Management?
Interesting question: I need to choose between Columbia's LSMA in East Asian studies and MSC Management at LSE. I have BA degrees in management and Chinese, so both is ok. Things I say: -LSE MSc Management in globally respected, 4th in EU according to FT...USA however may not know about MSc as MBA is the standard -Columbia LSMA is a great backdoor for SIPA and the Business School as it allows courses from there. Also many students go unto Phd.. it is also lot cheaper, but seems not structured and not so professional, easier courseload. I would like to fuse business and China together later, as that is my interest. Possible Phd or a professional degree like MIA. THANK YOU In terms of future job prospects (consulting, dilpomacy, China related) what would you say?

Civil Engineering BA then Msc in Management

Civil Engineering BA then Msc in Management?
My bro graduated with an undergrad in Civil and now he hates it and wants to go into finance/management... Do you think this is a wise career move? Will such a candidate find jobs more easily/ more difficultly?

Your "bro" needs to understand one thing: 1) An MSc in Management is for people who want to be college or university lecturers AND for those who want a PhD in Management to be a professor. Period. 2) To be successful in the business world, he NEEDS an MBA. An MSc will not cut it. I am the Hiring Manager for a corporation - I see hundreds of resumes EACH DAY on my desk of people with MSc degrees in Management. These people's resumes are not even considered. I will only consider those with MBA degrees. Period.

Both universities have great reputations and good business schools. You'll get a fantastic education with either one. You should weigh up the costs and also the locations. Sheffield is an industrial city in the north of the UK whereas Bath is beautiful spa town in the south. I imagine there'll be more of a party scene in Sheffield (although you'll get that anywhere in the UK)and it might be a bit cheaper on living but not as nice. Bath will probably offer a more varied social scene and is very pleasant. Take some time to cruise their tourist information websites and travel message boards. Personally I'd probably have chosen Sheffield for undergrad and then Bath for postgrad.
